Did you grow up with Fruit By The Foot, Squeeze-Ums, or Lunchables, too?

How about McDonalds Fries, Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup, or Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing?

You're probably aware those foods were not good for us back then, but did you know they're even worse for us now?

I didn't until I started researching the ingredient labels and comparing them from the 90s to now.

What did I find?

Artificial flavors and colors are going crazy, glyphosate (AKA Round Up) seems like it’s in everything, and more and more highly processed foods have made it onto the labels we see in stores today.

I recently read that about 15,000 new ingredients are introduced each year, keeping those food scientists, food engineers, and marketing experts very busy.

From what I can tell, manufacturers are finding increasingly sneaky ways to strip the nutrients out of our food to fill their pockets.

And I'm not okay with it. Are you?

Fortunately, we have something now that we didn't have back then to help us: options and knowledge.

Simple Mills: makes a great variety of crackers and cookies

Primal Kitchen Foods: makes excellent sauces and dressings

Many great brands are out there now that believe fewer ingredients are more, and I am so thankful for this.

The important lesson here is you have control over what you eat, and the best way to do that is to look at the ingredients list.

Here's what to look out for:

It's your direct line to understand the foods you put into your body and your best defense against getting hooked on fake foods and processed junk.

It's possible to enjoy a cleanish lifestyle, one small decision at a time.
