Once a month, I stock up on bulk items at Costco. My goal is to set us up for the month with the healthy foods best bought in bulk for their quality and quantity.
To make the list, these products need minimal ingredients, no added sugar or processed ingredients, be cost-effective, and be integral to our family’s meals, so much so that we will use it up over the month.
Here’s a breakdown of my favorite high-protein foods, healthy frozen foods, and healthy snacks at Costco. While many great options exist, these are my top picks for adding to my cart regularly.
- Clovis Farms Organic 3 Berry Blend—This is an excellent mix of high-quality, organic berries. I use a half cup of this berry mix daily in my protein smoothie. It’s just $3 more than Kirkland’s Three Berry Blend, which is also great but not organic.
- Kirkland Signature Organic Broccoli Florets—These are conveniently wrapped in separate pouches, which can be thawed individually. I hate cutting broccoli heads into florets, and this saves so much time and mess, and it still tastes great.
- Kirkland Signature Organic Peanut Butter—This is a great deal on delicious peanut butter. The only ingredients are peanuts and sea salt, which is perfect, and the peanut butter jars are larger than regular jars.
- Siete Grain-Free Tortilla Chips—These are the favorite tortilla chips in our house, and I love the ingredients. I adore almost everything Siete makes, and the cost is much better at Costco for these.
- Kirkland Signature Stir Fry Vegetable Blend—You can get over 5 pounds of high-quality, pre-cut veggies for less than $13. This is great if you just want an easy way to eat more veggies. Depending on our plans, I might also get a single frozen veggie, like broccoli or green beans, instead of this.
- Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers—Simple Mills uses quality ingredients in their products and are gluten-free. They also taste delicious and are a great deal at Costco.
- Kirkland Signature Wild Caught Alaska Sockeye Salmon—I love having salmon ready to thaw from the freezer. These individually wrapped salmon make a great protein addition to a quick lunch or dinner. I’ll also swap this for the Atlantic Salmon (which is farm-raised, so it is much higher in fat but delicious), Mahi-Mahi, Cod, or Tilapia.
- Kirkland Cage-Free Egg Whites—Dustin and I tear through eggs and egg whites weekly, so getting them in bulk is a big win. We add these to our whole eggs for more protein in our breakfast.
- Kirkland Signature Organic Raw Honey—We also use a lot of honey since we use pure maple syrup and raw honey as our main sweeteners. I love the taste of this honey, and that it’s raw and organic. Plus, buying 3 for less than $15 makes me much happier than one for $11 at the regular grocery store.
- Kirkland Signature Organic Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs—These organic chicken thighs are less than $8/lb, and we get them in bulk, which is great because we’ll go through 3 pounds in one meal when we cook (we make extra for leftovers and meal prep). This chicken tastes great and is always high quality.
- One Degree Gluten-Free Organic Rolled Oats—I love the chew on these sprouted rolled oats. They are delicious and so good for you, too. If I’m looking for a better deal, I’ll grab the Kirkland Whole Grain Rolled Oats, which are significantly cheaper, but both are great bulk oats.
- Raos Homemade Marinara Sauce—While I would prefer to use my own Homemade Tomato Sauce, sometimes you just need a quick canned option, and Rao’s is perfect. The ingredients list is short, and all the real foods and flavors are great, too. Costco’s deal for this tomato sauce is much better than the grocery store’s.
